Choosing Childcare

National Day Nurseries Association is a national charity representing children’s day nurseries across the UK, giving  them information, training and support. It works with local and national government to develop an environment in which quality early years education and care can flourish.

NDNA was created in the early 1990s. Headquartered in West Yorkshire, it has five Regional Centres spread across England. The Regional Centres provide support and training for members as well as being home to nurseries, which demonstrate good practice and provide a valuable service to the community in disadvantaged areas. NDNA is also developing a presence in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. NDNA is the voice of the day nursery sector, an integral part of the lives of nearly one million children and their families.

NDNA Membership
NDNA is primarily a membership association and has day nursery members from the private, voluntary and maintainedsectors. The majority of members come from the private sector and this reflects the structure of the day nursery market.Members subscribe to NDNA on an annual basis in return for a portfolio of tangible direct benefits such as a quarterly magazine, support and advice, conferences, seminars and training, briefing papers on issues and developments within the sector, supplier discounts, web site listings and access to local networks. They also benefit indirectly from NDNA’s consultation and representation activities at local and government level, as well as frequent media appearances.

NDNA – Quality Counts
Quality Counts, endorsed by Investors in Children, is the largest national quality assurance scheme specifically designed for group day care. Over 300 nurseries have  achieved Quality Counts accreditation and a further 1,300 nurseries workingtowards accreditation (as of September 1, 2005).
